Welcome to the Australian Opal Centre in the outback opal mining town of Lightning Ridge, Australia.
The Australian Opal Centre is home to the world’s greatest public collection of rare opalised fossils from the Age of Dinosaurs. It is a hub for knowledge, information, education and creative exploration of Australian opal and celebrates the colourful heritage and culture of Australia’s opal fields. It’s a nexus for community economic and cultural development, managed by a not-for-profit organisation, supported by thousands of members and supporters worldwide.

Work is underway to build a groundbreaking two-storey, energy-efficient underground
for the AOC, designed by celebrated Australian architects Glenn Murcutt and Wendy Lewin. This 21st century architectural icon will be a world-class tourism attraction and nationally-significant facility. The Australian Opal Centre is Australia’s most exciting community development project.

You can get involved! It’ll take only $30 from 1 million people to complete the new Australian Opal Centre – are you one in a million?
